Creating Your Own Rustic Accents
By Megan Cherry

One of the most satisfying things that anyone can do is to start a tedious project and then been able to show off the finished product to friends as well as family. But what do those people who are not so creative do?

Thanks to the Internet, just about anyone can learn how to do just about anything with almost any type of material available. One way to show creativity and have a great end product is to make home or furniture accents like wall coat racks. These can be made to anyone's tastes, unlike many of the items in the store that aren't so unique and one-of-a-kind. Rustic accents are an awesome way to be able to express and show your taste while also accenting the décor and beauty in your home.

So, what can you make that is relatively inexpensive and simple at the same time? You can create almost anything you want to add to your home's décor. You can create a rustic coat rack that can be made from an unused piece of crown molding that you can find in your home or at a junk store for pennies. You can also decide to go to your local hardware store and make a piece of molding look antique by whitewashing it. It is easy to learn this process by using the Internet. Add a couple of decorative hangers which you can find at the hardware store or at the junk store. With this you have your own unique home accent that you created yourself. Show it off. Who knows; maybe it will start an interesting conversation.

Be sure to keep in mind that rustic accents are not meant to look like you went to the store and bought them. They are created to capture the beauty of the rustic, homey feel it brings. If you've ever stated in a cabin by the lake for a weekend, you've most definitely seen and experienced the rustic look. Rustic items are usually associated with nature. Going into the woods to find berries, pine cones, and leaves, to use to make your rustic wreath to hang on the door is perfect. Creating and being rustic is easy as well as simple if you think about it.
