Three Ways to Freshen Up a Room (For Less Than $15)

For every home decorator there comes a time when we need to freshen up a room, but we don’t have a lot of extra cash to spend. There are quick and easy ways to update the look of any room, and spend less than $15 while doing it! Here are three top budget decorating ideas for freshening up the look of any room.
Color Your World
Use paint to freshen up a room for any season. Paint is inexpensive, and can be used in many different ways to bring color into a room, and to help you develop your decorating style or theme.
Paint just the focal wall of a room a rich color you absolutely love without the commitment of painting an entire room. Create style on an empty wall with paint by using stamps, stencils or faux paint techniques.
Use paint to create one of a kind furniture pieces, or paint all the furniture in a room the same color to tie it all together. Painting all the furniture the same color will give your decorating scheme a cohesive look.
Throw Some Style Around
Nothing freshens up a room on a budget faster than a throw blanket and some pillows.
Use a soft, comfy throw to visually soften a large piece of furniture, and to give yourself a cozy space to end each day.
Throw pillows are inexpensive and can be changed out for each season, or when the decorating fancy strikes. This is a great way to add pattern and color to a room without overwhelming it with busyness, especially if you are just developing your confidence.
Throws and pillows can be picked up at any discount store in a wide variety of colors, and can be used in living and family rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms. (Try the porch or sunroom as well!)
Reflect on Yourself
Add mirrors to any room that needs a quick lift, without spending a lot of money.
A large mirror added to your focal wall or over a fireplace will create a more spacious and brighter looking room. Be sure to reflect a window if possible to bring more light into the room. Placing candles or a pretty plant in front of the mirror will double a perfect reflection.
Consider creating a mirror collection and hanging them in a room that needs something other than the same old boring oil painting. Inexpensive small wall mirrors can be picked up at the discount store, dollar shop or at thrift stores. To hang them effectively, create an imaginary empty shape on your wall (such as a large rectangle, triangle or circle) and hang the mirrors in a grouping to fill that shape on the wall. This will create a unified grouping.
