Using Candles in Home Decor
By Kathy Wilson
When decorating a small room, one of the best known tricks is to allow in as much light as possible to make the room look larger. This can be a challenge at night, however, no matter how many lamps fill a room! Using candlelight to throw flickers and shadows can brighten your small room from drab to fab!
My favorite use of candles in a small room is to combine metal wall art and wall candle holders. This creates an elegant look during the day, and allows a practical use at night.
Another budget decorator trick is to take a wall mirror, place a grouping of candles on it as a tray, then use on tables or sideboards. The mirror reflects and doubles the candlelight, intensifying the effect.
Wall sconces for candles can be hung in entryways for a dramatic welcome for your visitors. Since they are hung up on the wall, they tend to be a safer alternative for those who have kids and pets. Hanging candle lanterns offer the same effect, but the flame is enclosed. These are fantastic lighting for outdoor rooms, as the enclosed lanterns offers some protection from breezes, and can offer lighting where no electricity is available.
Don’t forget, candles needn’t be expensive. Discount stores carry a wide variety of colors, scent sand sizes at affordable prices. There is no reason we can’t all indulge in the magic of candlelight, and brighten our small rooms at the same time!
