Letters are a big deal in design right now. I think it’s because we all connect with the personal nature of words. We can use letters in decorating to express ourselves, and we can do it in almost any style. I love vintage and industrial letters, but farmhouse style, marquee style and creative versions of letters are great choices too. Use them as a subtle reference to a person or place, or spell out words and inspiration. However you use them in your home, these DIY projects using letters for decorating will get you styling’ with the letters, while saving you some cash as well.

Our feature project is from Shannon from ‘AKA Design‘. Shannon created these DIY mini marquee letters from metal letters she found at Michaels… She did it for about $15, and they look a bit industrial vintage to me, like she found them in an old theater! These would be great in a media room!

Crafting It Myself‘ shows us exactly how to build this easy “love” shelf using letters! This is such a cute decorating project! Easy directions and step by step photos.

Sometimes Creative‘ made this simple photo monogram DIY letter with one of our fav products, Mod Podge! Oh, and she did it for $3!

From Katelyn at ‘Learning, Creating, Living’ via ‘Bob Vila‘, this DIY concrete letter and ampersand project is really cool, and pretty easy! I love the look of concrete, it’s such a wonderful medium that looks vintage and modern all at the same time… Great decorating with letters project!

Becky at ‘Newly and Becky‘ has this aged metal letters tutorial for us, and it’s a bit of a Restoration Hardware hack, which we always love as budget decorators! Simple way to get an expensive look for just a little money…

Rachel at ‘Maison de Pax’ created this DIY monogram chalk slate… I love this letter decorating project, because even though it can be used by kids to carry along, I think it would make a great message board too! Each childs’ initial could be their own personal message center! Oh, and I love the chalkboard craze. How can you not? :)

Just to prove to you that letter projects can have that wonderful farmhouse feel, Lisa at ‘Concord Cottage‘ shows you how she created her shutter with love project! This is a really charming project, and obviously you could choose to use another word or phrase…

We are on the hunt for letters too, really unique ones. We look everywhere from antique stores to Hobby Lobby! If you have an architectural salvage store in your city, thats a great place to find old historic numbers and letters… Good luck!
